Abstract:

The aim of this study is to estimate the radiation dose resulting from Radium-226 in groundwater wells by measuring the concentrations of Radon-222 and its decay products. The study was conducted on 23 groundwater wells in the Al-Sabeen district of the capital city of Sana’a. The samples were measured using a RAD7 device with the RADH2O attachment. The results have shown that the concentrations of 226Ra ranged from 0.037 to 0.222 Bq/L, with an average of 0.0745 Bq/L. While, the annual radiation dose resulting from the consumption of this water ranged from 7.77 to 45.14 mSv/y, with an average of 15.57 mSv/y, which is below the recommended reference level by the World Health Organization, 100 mSv/y.
