Measuring the Central Dose Rate of the Gamma Cell (GC 5000) by Using Thermoluminescence Dosimetry (TLD-100)

Abstract:

This study determines the central radiation dose rate in the irradiation chamber of the Gamma Irradiator Unit (GC 5000), containing 44 Cobalt-60 radiation sources, by using Thermoluminescence Dosimetry (TLD-100). The dose measurements were performed through two processes that were carried out in 2019 and 2022 at an irradiation dose less than 10 Gray. In total 45 TLDs were used for each measurement process. They were divided into three stages with attenuation factors of 50% and 75% for the first and second processes, respectively. The results have shown that the TLD-100 dosimeter can be used for measuring the dose rate of the Gamma Cell 5000 and achieving good linear correlation relations when irradiating with low doses less than 10 Gy at the linear response range for this type of dosimeters.
